More rambling thoughts and challenges from the MD of Samka Architectural Solutions Limited
This weeks Blog is all about the challenge we faced and the resolution we came up with – to wax or not to wax.
The Client –
Our client is quite demanding and has recently undergone a large renovation project on their existing home. Part of the renovation work included a change to the original fireplace, they wanted to keep the fireplace but wanted a more up to date and modern feel whilst still retaining a period look. Not an easy challenge and one that has proved to be difficult.
We had a template cut for the surround and dog iron however the original wish to galvanize became a problem as the specialist galvanizers felt this was not achievable with the raw product as it would have to be ultra smooth and whilst this was achievable the weight and cost made this relatively unviable. So for a couple of months the template has remained in the workshop whilst various options were discussed. Then the Commercial Director read an article and came up with an idea – let’s wax the steel!
Steel waxing is a technique that involves heating wax on the steel to create a finish that looks mottled and shines. So if you are looking for something different ask about our specialist service.
