The Ramblings of a Director
This week has brought many challenges to what we are aiming to achieve, mainly illness and changes from clients who are not ready for us, but first let’s reflect to last week.
The Birth of Networking!
On Friday the Directors of Samka Architectural Solutions Limited attended a Lloyds TSB Seminar in Newbury aimed at entrepreneurial business people; we have attended these events previously and feel that we benefit from the interaction of those attending and the table hosts facilitating good conversation and debate. Overall last week did not disappoint although the weather was not good and the marquee was cold! Also in a completely unrelated work issue we are also delighted to announce the birth of our first grandchild – a beautiful bouncing boy who was born as we drove to the seminar.
This week our Design Assistant was taken ill, clearly this affects the workload that we can channel through the workshop and on site. When our internal designer is off we turn to an external consultant to assist with the workload, this works well but has its limitations with regard to management of projects. The Commercial Assistant took an extended holiday last week and his return on Monday was much anticipated as we have many tenders that need to be reviewed and sent back in order that we can win new business however a throat infection has meant that he has not been able to return and this affects the sales process.
Lack of fabrication drawings has meant that some people have taken holiday this week so that they utilise a quite period to their and our advantage.
Don’t be concerned, its not all bad!…
But what is good –we are on site in Oxford, we are getting many requests for estimates and tenders; we are working with new clients and are heavily involved in a Royal project – more details to follow regarding this exciting news.
The Directors are planning and strategising and have an away in the diary for Thursday to discuss what makes us good, what we need to change and where we want to be in five and ten years. We are looking at the strengths we have in people and the areas in which we need to develop them, we are looking at are the right people doing the right jobs and what are we missing. We are looking at how we need to adapt and where we sit in the market place. We feel that now is the time to strengthen our plan and revisit what we are doing.
The Commercial Director has travelled a lot this week, Telford, Oxford, London and Windsor – meeting with new and existing clients in order to continue the development of the business. I have been preparing for the meeting and with team members looking at the strengths and areas of development of individuals, I have been looking at what makes us unique and what threats we may face over the next months and years.
